Providing a new perspective for a better appreciation of Philippine history is the “Ang Pilipinas sa Sayaw” Presented by the Kaloob Philippine Music and Dance Ministry headed by Dr. Ed Lapiz. Using a common element, i.e., bamboo used by Philippine dances from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, one can see the unity of Filipinos in its diversity. Dances like, Tangunggu, Sama di Laut, Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi are tradionally danced suing bamboo poles. Subli, a dance originating from the towns of Bauan, Agocillo and Tingloy Batangas uses “Kalaste” a two piece bamboo instrument. Even with the coming of the Spaniards, native Filipinos, maintained the use of “Kalaste” as a show of defiance to the authorities. The Subli dance was presented in its original form as a religious ritual with drum and sound of the kalaste as the only music.
“Cutting across Tourism”, the second part of the program started with a very comprehensive presentation of Intramuros Administrator, Mr. Marco Antonio Luisito Sardillo III, in his talk “Intramuros, Noon at Ngayon”. The message of Gov. Joey Salceda, governor of Albaywas delivered by Atty. Carol Sabio, chief of staff of the governor with a very enlightening update on tourism activities and sights of Albay with his “Magayon Albay – Ang Bayan ng Magiting”
A sumptuous buffet lunch was served. Before ending the program, Mr. Cesar R. Cruz presented several upcoming programs of PHILTOA including the 26th Philippine Travel Mart and the Islands Philippines Fun Caravan. It was indeed another successful GMM event for PHILTOA.
