Visit Asean@50 celebrates with Southern Tagalog Kulinarya Caravan
The Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) is the largest association of registered tour operators together with allied members from various tourism sectors such as airlines, hotels, resorts, tourist transportation, and more focused in contributing to the growth of Philippine inbound and domestic tourism.
2017 is Visit ASEAN @ 50 commemorating the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Philippines, one of the founding members of ASEAN is the host of the golden anniversary celebration. The Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA), in line with its advocacy, i.e., the promotion and development of inbound and domestic tourism is running seven (7) caravan programs which will be opened to travelling public for participation.
Caravan programs are interactive and participative. Participants are not just simple observers but become a part of the program as they interact and immerse themselves with the local community. The Caravan Program is designed to provide flexibility in the choices of activities and accommodation in each destination, based on the interest and affordability of the participants. The fiesta atmosphere is always an integral feature in each of the destinations during welcome reception. Significant participation of LGU’s and local community in each program:
- Welcome reception with “ caravan passport” stamping;
- Community-based tour activities;
- Mini trade fairs;
The seven caravans for this year are:
- Cordillera Heritage Caravan (Nueva Vizcaya – Ifugao – Mountain Province – Benguet – Baguio City)
- The Visayan Charms (Bohol – Cebu – Boracay)
- Southern Tagalog Kulinarya Caravan (Cavite – Batangas – Laguna – Quezon)
- The CARAGA Eco Trail (Siargao – Surigao del Norte – Surigao del Sur)
- Rediscover Batanes (Basco – Sabtang – Ivana – Uyugan – Mahatao)
- Northern Palawan (Coron) Eco Adventure Caravan (Coron – Busuanga – Salvacion – Concepcion – Culion)
- Bicol Express (Naga City – Legazpi City – Camalig City – Sorsogon City – Bulusan – Matnog – Gubat)
All these caravan programs will be the main offering during the annual Philippine Travel Mart (PTM), the longest running travel trade exhibition. The 28th PTM is happening on 01-03 September 2017 at the SMX Convention Center under the theme “50 Shades of Fun at Visit ASEAN@50. The “Sale ng Bayan” will feature tour packages and other tourism services for as low as 70% discount which will be up for grabs during the three-day exhibition. In support of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) the offerings will also cover the offerings of other ASEAN countries + 3 (China, Japan and Korea).
The 28th Philippine Travel Mart will be bigger and more festive with the line of activities on stage: cultural dance; eco-chorale; Bituin ng Kasuotang Pilipino; Himig ng Kundiman and final round of the Tourism Quiz Bee.
Completing the 50 Shades of Fun during the Philippine Travel Mart are the colorful and artistic thematic representations of the regions, provinces, municipalities and cities showcasing their destinations and products spread out in the four halls of SMX Convention Center covering an area of 9,120 square meters. More than 300 companies are participating occupying 22 regular pavilions, 11 island pavilions, 30 super prime booths, 200 regular and prime booths. The Flavor of the Philippines featuring local delicacies and cuisines will be featured in almost 50 different booths.
