TravelServices, Inc. (TSI) has been operating in the Philippines since 1969 as Thomas Cook Travel. Originally a partnership between Smith Bell & Company and the Thomas Cook Group of UK, the Metrobank Group gained control of the company in 1986 by acquiring majority share of Smith Bell & Company. The company was then renamed as Travelex when the latter acquired Thomas Cook’s Global and Financial Services Group. Travelex’share was eventually bought by Asia Pacific Top Management International Resources Corp, a leading management company which operates the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu Hotel. The company was renamed First Metro Travel Inc.

 

In 2010, TravelPeople Ltd. Inc., an affiliate of the Magsaysay Group of Companies, entered into a share purchase agreement with First Metro Investment Corporation, the investment arm of the Metrobank Group, to acquire the majority shares of First Metro Travel Inc.
